Totals may not have been impressive, but the shower and drizzle activity from Thursday morning may well have eliminated any severe weather risk for area counties Thursday night. The rain also apparently led to an injury crash involving two Emporians on the Kansas Turnpike.
Rain lingered between sunrise and noon for much of the area, leading to 0.15 inches of rain at the KVOE studios and 0.05 at the Emporia Municipal Airport. Other reports:
*1100 block Constitution: 0.15 inches
*Mount Vernon Terrace: 0.20 inches
*Allen: 0.50 inches
The injury crash happened shortly after noon in Osage County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 76-year-old George Arnett was northbound when his SUV hydroplaned. Arnett lost control, with the vehicle hitting the center barrier wall.
Arnett suffered possibly minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital. His passenger, 74-year-old Jaylene Arnett, had possible injuries and was taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
