A second newcomer has added their name to the ballot for the USD 252 Southern Lyon County Board of Education.
Brad Hoelting has filed for election to USD 252 Position 4. Hoelting is now running against fellow newcomer Justin Farr for that position, while incumbents Gene Windle (Position 1), Emily Darbyshire (Position 5) and Charles Steffes (Position 7) have filed for re-election to the board. Position 4 incumbent Kevin Flott has not filed for re-election at this time.
School boards have seen several filings over the past week as all incumbents for the USD 253 Board of Education are now on the ballot after Grant Riles, Leslie Seeley and Art Gutierrez all filed for re-election this past Friday. Fellow incumbent Jeremy Dorsey filed for re-election in February.
For city government, Emporia City Commission incumbents Jamie Sauder, Becky Smith and Erren Harter have all filed for re-election with no newcomers on the ballot for either city commission or USD 253 at this time. Elsewhere, Neosho Rapids City Council member Brian Shank and Americus City Council incumbent Nicolette Nuessen are both on the ballot for their respective positions.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 1. If enough candidates file for election a primary will be held Aug. 1.
