It truly pays to have good friends.
Just ask Emporia’s Habitat for Humanity which has received assistance from the Jake and Friends contingent of volunteers on its latest house build in Emporia. For the past week, Jake and Friends volunteers along with local residents have pitched in to help construct the new home at 4th and Sylvan.
Eric Kirby of Habitat says they have been a true blessing that has accelerated the build time.
Jake and Friends is comprised of volunteer builders from around the country that assist with habitat builds across the nation. Jake Newell, alongside his wife, formed the group for this purpose.
He says there is no better feeling than to be able to provide home buyers with the home of their dreams.
Volunteers have been in Emporia since Monday and will conclude their work Saturday. The Lyon County Fairboard has allowed the volunteers to park their RVs at the fairgrounds for the duration of their stay.
Closing on the home is tentatively scheduled to occur in October according to Kirby.
