Red Rocks’ summer series of programs will begin earlier than anticipated.
The series of programs begins with a remembrance event honoring Barbara White Walker Sunday.
White Walker passed away in March and had a significant impact on Emporia. Event spokesman Roger Heineken says they wanted to find a way to dedicate a series to her, especially when she gave the Red Rocks House to the state of Kansas in 2001.
The presentation will feature Amy Bickel and Kathy Hanks, both long-time journalists. Bickel began her career at The Emporia Gazette working for White Walker. Hanks has written for several Kansas newspapers.
Bickel and Hanks recently collaborated to write a book about White Walker and her family. Heineken says Bickel and Hanks are the best fit to present especially when they worked with White Walker before her passing.
The event begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Red Rocks Historic Site.
