For the first time in eight years, Hetlinger Developmental Services’ aluminum can rally made a return Saturday morning.
Patrons lined up as soon as 45 minutes prior to the event at the facility located at 707 South Commerical to get a special deal of 50 cents per pound for aluminum cans.
Hetlinger Director Jill Burton, who was participating in her first can drive, says this is an event that should be done more often.
Cans collected by Hetlinger are then taken to Wichita where then they’ll get reimbursed. Burton explained where the reimbursed funds go towards.
The heart of Hetlinger’s mission is community integration and making sure the people they serve are involved, seen, and heard around Emporia.
With being in her first year as director at Hetlinger, Burton says the history and tradition of Hetlinger are important.
Overall, Burton says Saturday’s event was a team effort.
