The Emporia High boys golf team has qualified for the final day of the Class 5A state tournament at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson.
Emporia High is currently in fourth place after shooting a season-best 296. The Spartans are 16 strokes behind day one leader Bishop Carroll, 14 behind Kapaun Mt. Carmel, and 12 behind Goddard Eisenhower.
Four Spartans recorded scores below 80.
Caden Massey is -1 (69) through round one. Will Walker is +4 (74). Hudson Sauder is +6 (76). Nolan Jacob is +7 (77). Jared Johnson is +20 (90). Brayden Bowen is +24 (94).
At the 2A tournament, Lyndon finished day 1 in 11th place. Casten Wirth had the low score for Lyndon finishing in a tie for 46th place with a 91.
At the 3A tournament, Council Groves Drew Buchman is tied for 7th place with a 77 and has advanced to day 2.
Osage Citys Owen Bailey finished tied for 52nd place with an 87.
At the 1A tournament being played at the Emporia Golf Course. South Gray is in first place, Washington County, Hutchinson Central Christian, Bishop Seabury, Ashland, and Ingalls have advanced to day 2.
Spencer Coup of Solomon and Nathan Reed of Hutchinson Central Christian are tied for 1st place with 77s.
At the Sand Greens State tournament, Chase Countys Piper Vogel finished in a tie for 27th place.
