A lot of visible progress is expected as work continues at the Sixth and Prairie intersection over the next month.
The city of Emporia says the north half of the intersection will see improvements over the next two weeks, including concrete pavement, storm sewer, water line, sidewalk and handicapped-accessible ramp improvements, with the south half of the intersection having similar improvements over the next two to four weeks. New traffic signal poles are expected on site in June or July and will be erected once they are delivered. If utility and pavement improvements happen before the signal poles get to Emporia, traffic control will remain in place until the poles are delivered.
The project will conclude with site restoration, grass seeding and pavement marking.
The project is changing the “geometric” configuration of the intersection. Better traffic flow and modernized traffic signals will result from the finished project this summer.
