Economic development in several forms will highlight the Emporia City Commission meeting schedule Wednesday.
Commissioners will have a public hearing related to a tax abatement on Fanestil Meats’ over $19 million worth of Industrial Revenue bonds for its move from the Cottonwood River floodplain to the 4700 block of West Highway 50. No decision is expected until the city’s June 7 meetings.
Separately, commissioners will consider a petition from Emporia Enterprises to annex the 147-acre Industrial Park IV just west of Emporia into the city limits. The annexation is recommended by the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission. A separate annexation request, this one involving 1022 South Weaver, will also have consideration.
Other action meeting highlights include the issuance of general obligation bonds for the so-called Mahtropolis housing subdivision near Trusler Sports Complex as well as sanitary sewer and water main improvements for the project. A biosolid “hauling and beneficial land application” from Hodges Farms and Dredging is also planned.
After three executive sessions, commissioners will shift to a study meeting to discuss revenue sources, fund balances, personnel matters and capital improvement projects.
The meeting slate begins at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room.
