The Emporia High track and field teams will send 12 athletes to the Class 5A state championships beginning Friday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
Senior Fred Jackson will be running in the 400m dash and a part of the 4x400m relay.
Jackson will be joined on the 4x400m relay by Derrick Keys, Kyle Obermeyer and Blake Spellman.
Along with being on the 4x400m relay, Obermeyer will be running in the 110m hurdles.
Senior Jonaus Anderson is making his first trip to state. He’ll be running in the 200m dash and a part of the 4x100m relay.
Anderson will be joined on the 4x100m relay by Marco Robinson, who will also be in the 100m dash.
Brody Duncan and RJ Tabares round out the 4x100m relay.
Senior Parker Leeds will be competing in the long and triple jumps.
Junior Jeremiah Huber will be competing in the pole vault.
On the girls side, junior Mia Trujillo will be competing in the discus and the shot put.
Freshman Harley Smith will be running in the 400m dash.
Areawide, Olpe and Lebo will each have athletes in 17 events. Lyndon will have athletes in 16 events.
Chase County and Osage City will each have athletes in 15 events. Madison will have athletes in 13 events. Burlington will have athletes in 11 events.
Northern Heights and Council Grove each will have athletes in eight events. Burlingame will have athletes in seven events. Waverly will have athletes in six events. Mission Valley has athletes in five events.
Marais des Cygnes Valley has one athlete competing in three events. Southern Coffey County has athletes in three events. Hartford has athletes in two events. Hamilton has one athlete in one event.
KVOE will have reports throughout the day both Friday and Saturday from Cessna Stadium.
