Lyon County Area Transportation riders can expect to see an increase in ridership cost come July.
Lyon County Commissioners approved a series of proposed increases during their regular action meeting Thursday at the request of LCAT Director Shane Brunner. While it is safe to say that riders do not want to see increases of any kind, Brunner assured them the coming changes are very minimal.
Brunner says the increases are necessary due to rising costs for materials and fuel, however, the department wanted to ensure it was still cost-effective for riders. The new fees will go into effect beginning July 1.
In other business Thursday, commissioners heard their third 2024 budget request in two days. Thursday’s request, $15,000, came from Ty Wheeler of Kansas Legal Services.
Wheeler tells KVOE News their budget request follows what was a “tough year” for the agency in 2022.
The $15,000 request from Wheeler is up just $1,000 from the 2022 request of $14,000. Wheeler’s presentation Thursday followed allocation requests from both Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness and the Lyon County Clerk’s Office Wednesday.
Commissioners will consider many more requests during a special study session next Wednesday at 9 am. Commissioners will then reconvene for their weekly action session at 9 am Thursday.
Both meetings will be held inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
