With just under a week remaining before the candidate filing and withdrawal deadline, a pair of candidates have filed for two separate races.
Friday, Christy Grant filed for election to the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education. Grant now joins fellow newcomer Sam Tovar and incumbents Leslie Seeley, Grant Riles, Art Gutierrez and Jeremy Dorsey on the ballot.
Grant says she chose to run for election in order to be a better advocate for students and staff alike.
Separately Friday, Dallas Shepherd filed for re-election to the Neosho Rapids City Council joining fellow incumbents Karla Mendoza and Brian Shank on the ballot. Elsewhere, Billy Paige has filed for re-election to the Reading City Council as has Americus City Council incumbent Nicolette Nuessen.
For Emporia City Commission, incumbents Jamie Sauder, Erren Harter and Becky Smith along with newcomer Will Spencer are all on the ballot. For area school boards, USD 251 North Lyon County has Position 2 incumbent David Goldsmith running for re-election. USD 252 South Lyon County has Position 1 incumbent Gene Windle, Position 5 incumbent Emily Darbyshire and Position 7 incumbent Charles Steffes all running for re-election.
Position 4 incumbent Kevin Flott has not filed for re-election, but newcomers Justin Farr and Brad Hoelting have filed for that seat.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 1. If enough candidates file for election, a primary will be held August 1.
