Area athletes earned 34 medals during Day 2 of the State High School Track and Field Meet in Wichita.
There were six state champions. Burlingame’s Matthew Heckman won the 1A boys high jump with a clearance of 6-10.
The other state champions are the Chase County boys 4x800m relay team of Cooper Schroer, Silus Hernandez, Carson Schroer and Tag Groh. It was a personal best and a school record for the quartet.
Cooper Schroer led off the Bulldogs’ relay.
Madison’s Bryson Turner won the 1A boys 100m and 200m.
Council Grove’s Ethan Burton won the 3A boys 100m and 200m.
Also earning medals, Emporia High’s Kyle Obermeyer finished third in the 5A boys 110m hurdles.
Marais des Cygnes Valley’s Akyra Traver was sixth in the 1A girls 100m hurdles. Burlington’s Keely Hoback finished seven in the 3A girls 100m hurdles.
Lyndon’s Kaedin Massey finished fourth in the 2A boys shot put. It was Massey’s second medal of the weekend after taking second in the 2A boys discus on Friday.
Lebo’s Audrey Peek finished eighth in the 1A girls pole vault.
Council Grove’s Ahmed Mansaray finished fifth in the 3A boys 100m while Burlington’s Zane Hoback finished sixth.
Lyndon’s Evan Feuerborn finished seventh in the 2A boys 100m.
Chase County’s Madelyn Wilson finished eighth in the 2A girls javelin. It was her second medal of the weekend.
Olpe’s Lilly Skalsky finished seventh in the 1A girls 1,600m. It was her second medal of the weekend after taking seventh in the 3,200m on Friday.
Olpe’s Kaleb Arnold finished fifth in the 1A boys 1,600m. It was his second medal of the weekend after finishing fourth in the 3,200m on Friday.
Lyndon’s Brayden Marcotte finished sixth in the 2A boys 1,600m.
Chase County’s Mitch Budke finished fifth in the 2A boys javelin, while Mission Valley’s Laken Lewis finished seventh.
The Chase County boys 4x100m relay finished fifth.
Osage City’s Landon Boss finished third in the Class 3A discus. It was his third medal of the weekend.
Chase County’s Tag Groh finished sixth in the long jump and was third in the 400m. He anchored Chase County’s 4x800m relay.
Council Grove’s Evan Carr finished fourth in the triple jump.
Madison’s Yolaine Luthi finished seventh in the 300m hurdles.
Osage City’s Emory Speece finished fifth in the 800m. It was her second medal of the weekend after taking fourth in the 3,200m on Friday.
Lyndon’s Trysten Sowers earned a pair of medals in the 400m and the 200m.
Burlington’s girls 4x400m relay team finished eighth.
Chase County’s boys 4x400m relay team finished second.
The Emporia High boys 4x400m relay team finished fourth after being seeded eighth heading into the finals. Kyle Obermeyer says it was a team effort.
In the team standings, the Chase County boys finished third in Class 2A. The Madison boys finished fifth in Class 1A. The Council Grove boys finished in a tie for sixth in Class 3A.
