Visit Emporia is ready for the thousands of participants and visitors coming to Emporia for Unbound Gravel.
Part of that preparation includes an emphasis on the department’s new Visit Emporia Pledge. Director LeLan Dains says information is online at visitemporia.com/pledge. It has three main components for residents and visitors alike: social responsibility, environmental responsibility and cultural responsibility. Environmental responsibility means “leaving no trace” of activity, while social responsibility can be also described as The Golden Rule — treat others as you wish to be treated — and cultural responsibility involves being respectful of Emporia’s diverse cultures and community activities.
Well over 200 people have taken the pledge so far, and Dains expects more people signing up with big events like Unbound and the Dynamic Discs Open later on the calendar.
Speaking of Unbound, Dains is looking beyond the main schedule of activities to the clean-up effort beginning at 8 am Sunday. Dains says the reason behind the clean-up is simple: so everybody can enjoy the views across the area.
