The Emporia Public Library’s Summer Reading series is off and running.
The library hosted its official kickoff Wednesday afternoon following a high volume of promotion by staff across the community. Youth Services Coordinator Lori Heller.
Those efforts paid off as the library was chock-full of parents and children of all ages who took part in a variety of activities including crafts, a scavenger hunt and even a temporary tattoo station. For Heller, this is the 22nd summer reading event she has helped to oversee and it will also be her last as a member of the library staff.
Heller says it will be a special summer for her and, she hopes, the entire community.
This year’s theme is “All Together Now” and in addition to daily programming, activities will include weekly Kids Koncerts at the library every Wednesday. The concert series will begin next Wednesday when Uno, Dos, Tres Andres perform.
The schedule also includes Jeff Quinn the Magician will on June 14, Mr. Stinky Feet on June 21 and Funky Mama on June 28. For more information on the Summer Reading event including a full schedule visit emporialibrary.org.
