USD 253 Emporia Board of Education members spent roughly an hour in executive session as part of a special meeting Wednesday afternoon.
The board convened for a pair of executive sessions before adjourning the meeting with no action taken. The reasons listed for the executive sessions were attorney-client privilege and the district would not offer additional comment on the matter.
The special meeting came just 24 hours after the Emporia Police Department announced there was no evidence to support claims of inappropriate touching by an adult as part of an investigation into an incident at Emporia Middle School on May 12. However; EPD says it will likely be pursuing charges against four juveniles for falsely reporting a crime.
KVOE asked Superintendent Dr. Allison Anderson Harder if the district has any policies on how to handle students falsely filing reports. Anderson Harder responded saying, “Not that specifically, but we do talk about discipline and orderly conduct.”
When asked if this situation would fall under the classification of disorderly conduct, Anderson Harder stated the district could not comment further on situations involving students.
