A combination of inflation and needed salary increases have been the main driving force behind a series of increased budget allocation requests to come before Lyon County Commissioners this week.
During their regular action meeting Thursday morning, commissioners received a request of roughly $400,000 from Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman, an increase of right around four percent from 2023. Goodman tells KVOE News the increase will assist with annual equipment maintenance and a merit increase for staff.
Lyon County Treasurer Sharon Gaede, SOS, Lyon County Extension Ag Agent Brian Rees and Alexis Rockers representing Lyon County’s Senior Centers also presented their 2024 requests Wednesday morning. All of the requests were up from the previous year with inflationary costs and increased wages being the main factor for most.
Goodman tells KVOE News the requests have all been reasonable in his opinion and are sorely needed to keep qualified staff on hand.
The Extension Office is seeking a total of $370,000, an increase of $65,000 over the previous fiscal year. Rees tells KVOE News if the extension office did not seek an increased allocation this year, operations would suffer.
Gaede’s 2024 budget request is seeking just over $428,000.
SOS’ request totals more than $390,000, an eight percent increase over the prior year according to Director Connie Cahoone.
Rockers’ request came out to $24,160, a $6,000 increase over 2023. Commissioners have taken all requests under consideration.
