Regardless of the course layout, the “Highland Hill” has become one of the staples of the Unbound Gravel finish for riders — and it will be part of the course as construction continues on Highland Street.
Here’s City Engineer Jim Ubert on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday:
Besides a complete repavement, work has also included sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water lines and curb and gutter. Utility work is done, as is tearout for much of the existing pavement. Curb and gutter work is underway as part of the initial phase of paving work, which also includes building up the asphalt base. Current pavement from 13th to the Sauder Alumni Center will be torn out soon.
The goal is still to have construction finished by the time fall classes begin in mid-August.
