Hunter McCoy’s family is overwhelmed by the support of area residents after a bad UTV wreck on his birthday.
Residents showed their support this weekend with a special fundraising biscuits and gravy breakfast and gun raffle at the Lyon County Fairgrounds on Saturday. McCoy’s mom, Jenny, says the support has been amazing.
Organizer Richelle Birk says Hunter McCoy has made a major mark on the area, as demonstrated by the wide-ranging support.
Hunter McCoy was thrown off a UTV when it crashed May 6, suffering critical head trauma and an aortic aneurysm along with other injuries. After spending time at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, he has been transferred to Madonna Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jenny McCoy says Hunter has “shown a lot of small improvement signs that are encouraging to his medical team.
The initial fundraising goal, including the breakfast and gun raffle, has been $20,000, with at least $15,000 raised before the weekend. Totals from Saturday are pending.
