Heavy rainfall in the early to mid-evening hours Monday has led flooding on city streets in Emporia.
According to the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center Facebook page, Officers have responded to 15th and Prairie for reports of heavy water over the roadway. Motorists are being asked to find an alternate route in the meantime.
The Mechanic Street Underpass was closed right around 6 pm due to flooding in the area. The underpass has since been reopened.
Separately, a non-weather related was reported at 6th and Stratford just before 6:45 pm. LCECC says there was a “geyser shooting water” in the area. Public Works was notified of the situation, however, the reports were ultimately unfounded.
Minor isolated ponding has been reported in low-lying roadways within the greater Lyon County area, however, no widespread flooding has been reported according to Lyon County Emergency Manager Jarrod Fell.
