The Lyon County Highway Department has placed barricades at a handful of county roads due to water over the roadway.

The barricades follow heavy rainfall from Monday evening. Rain totals ranged from 0.5 inches to upwards of 2 inches across the listening area.

*Five miles southwest of Olpe: 1.2 inches
*Olpe Blacksmith Shop: 0.5 inches
*Between Olpe and Hartford: 1.25 inches
*Road 260 11 miles north of Emporia: 2.8 inches
*Six miles north of Gridley: 2.15 inches
*Reading: 0.4 inches
Motorists are reminded it is illegal to drive around barricades. If you come across a roadway with water over the top that is not barricaded turn around don’t drown.
