Five more 2024 appropriation requests have been taken under consideration by Lyon County Commissioners following their weekly action meeting Thursday morning.
The Lyon County Conservation District is seeking $35,000, a flat sum from fiscal 2023. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will be seeking $7.2 million, a 4.4 percent increase over fiscal 2023. Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says budgeting is becoming more and more challenging each year with wages being one of the main stressors.
Lyon County Facilities Director Robbie Weiss has submitted an allocation request of $9,123 for a new chiller inside of the Lyon County Courthouse. For the Emporia Senior Center, Director Ian Boyd has submitted a request of $115,000, a $10,000 increase from fiscal 2023.
Newman Regional Health submitted its request of $800,000 which will help to fund updated equipment as part of the hospital’s Cardiac Cath Lab replacement project. Newman CEO Bob Wright says the funds if approved, will facilitate the replacement of imagery equipment.
Wright says the replacement is urgently needed and not a cheap effort due in part to the age and availability of the equipment.
Thursday’s requests follow a study meeting from Wednesday where commissioners received seven requests from the Register of Deeds Office, Emporia Public Library, Emporia Main Street, Flint Hills Technical College and the Elemendaro, North Lyon County and Americus libraries. Commissioners have taken all requests under consideration as part of the 2024 budget process.
Commissioners will reconvene next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
