It was a record-setting weekend for the Yeager/Jenkins Memorial Catfish Tournament.
37 teams made up of over 140 people helped raise money for the Yeager/Jenkins Memorial Scholarship.
Organizer Nick Bess says the experience is a reason why most people enter the tournament.
Funds raised for the scholarships are in the memory of Jeremy Jenkins, Jason Jenkins and Clint Yeager who died in a boating accident.
To be eligible for the scholarship, interested students have to write an essay about what family means to them. Members of the Yeager and Jenkins families then pick the winners and determine the amount each recipient will receive.
The winning team of Jeremy Docman, John Wilson, Aaron Docman and Quinten Payne reeled in 242.8 pounds of fish. Bess says it was the team’s first time winning the tournament.
There were also raffles for kids and adults. The kids raffle prizes included fishing poles and a lifetime fishing license from Whats In Outdoors host Phil Taunton. The adult raffle prizes included a Yeti cooler and fishing rods and reels.
Over $6,500 were given out in payouts and prizes.
