There wasn’t much in the way of fire after a reported transformer issue in west Emporia on Sunday.
Emporia Fire was dispatched to the 2300 block of West 18th just after 2 pm after a reported transformer fire. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says a squirrel caused the malfunction, which did not lead to any power outages, according to Evergy’s online tracking map.
No injuries were reported. The fire was quickly handled and the scene turned over to Evergy for repairs.

Emporia firefighters have responded to a reported transformer fire Sunday afternoon.
The fire was reported in the 2300 block of West 18th just after 2 pm. No outage has posted on Evergy’s online outage map.
