Game wardens with Kansas Wildlife and Parks were busy on land and in the water over the Memorial Day weekend.
The unofficial start to the boating season saw game wardens make five “under the influence” arrests, three for boaters and two for drivers. It also issued 114 boat warnings, 57 boat citations and investigated one accident. There were no drownings, but wardens conducted one search and rescue investigation and responded to almost 30 assistance calls.
On the fishing side, wardens issued 34 warnings and 33 citations.
Wardens also noted 16 alcohol or drug violations and recovered one stolen boat.
In all, wardens inspected almost 500 boats as part of 964 enforcement hours during the Memorial Day weekend.
