A trip to Osage County, ostensibly to have sex with an underaged girl, turned into a federal conviction for a Kansas City, Missouri, man instead.
The US Department of Justice says a federal jury convicted 58-year-old Steven Spradley on one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual content after his arrest as part of an undercover operation including the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Spradley was convicted of traveling from Jackson County, Missouri, to Osage County nearly two years ago to meet with a person he thought was a 17-year-old girl he chatted with online. Instead, Spradley was talking with an Osage County investigator.
Spradley faces up to 30 years in prison at sentencing.
