Emporia High has a new softball coach.
Tommy McClure was named the next head softball coach of the Lady Spartans as approved by the USD 253 Board of Education Wednesday evening.
McClure says he’s excited to get to Emporia.
McClure comes to Emporia after five years as the head coach at Liberal. Prior to that, he was the head coach for two years at Hugoton.
McClure says the competition the Lady Spartans play on a yearly basis is what stood out to him when he applied for the job.
Emporia High Athletic Director Beau Welch says McClure is a good fit for the program.
Along with coaching softball, McClure will teach Special Education at EHS.
McClure replaces Annie Rockley who spent one season as head coach. Rockley resigned in May to take a teaching job at Spring Hill.
