What is better than a clear sky, a cool night, root beer floats and chicken dancing?
Well, if you asked the soon-to-be-inducted members of the National Teachers Hall of Fame 2023 class, nothing. The 2023 inductees joined the Emporia community Thursday evening for the traditional Emporia Municipal Band concert at Fremont Park.
The evening began with root beer floats provided by Steve and Nina Haught followed by the municipal bands’ performance that included selections from Star Wars, the Looney Tunes and of course the now traditional Chicken Dance.
Hall of Fame activities will come to a close Friday beginning with the dedication of a new statue at the One Room School House at 9 am followed by the annual rededication ceremony of the National Memorial to Fallen Educators at 10 am which will be available on KVOE-TV at KVOE.com. The induction banquet will begin at 6 pm with the official ceremony scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm inside of the ESU Memorial Union’s Webb Hall.
