Lyon County Commissioners received their final appropriation requests of the 2024 budgeting cycle during their weekly action meeting Thursday morning.
North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging Director Julie Govert Walter submitted a roughly $5,800 increase request of $288,841. Govert-Walter says the increase is primarily needed to support increased wages for Friendship Meals staff through the Friendship Center.
Govert Walter says she understands rising costs are putting a strain on available funding, especially with the majority of local agencies increasing their appropriations this year. That being said, Govert Walter tells KVOE News the variety of services they provide to the county is worth every penny.
Lyon County Fairboard President Jeremiah Corpening says inflation and wages were also a key component to the board’s request of $100,000, up $40,000 from fiscal 2023.
Commissioners have taken these, and other requests, under consideration as the county begins to ramp up work on developing the 2024 budget. A special study meeting is coming next Wednesday for that exact purpose.
Commissioners will have their first viewing of the proposed budget during that session which is scheduled to begin at 11 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
In other business Thursday, commissioners approved five separate requests from Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods, the purchase of a NAS serve and hard drive from CDWG totaling more than $5,500 at the request of Lyon County IT Director Chuck Boyce and the cost of the county’s two corporate challenge teams not to exceed $500. Empower House Ministries also presented an update on the agency’s programming.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its weekly meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
