The state push to stop fentanyl has had two major developments this week.
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has started a public service campaign, asking residents not to take any pills they didn’t get from doctors or pharmacists.
This week, the state’s new Joint Fentanyl Impact Team, consisting of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Kansas Highway Patrol, announced a seizure of around 25,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills weighing almost 12 pounds in Wichita. A Wichita man was detained and questioned as the investigation continues.
The Attorney General’s effort follows enhanced criminal penalties as approved by lawmakers and a redirection of resources by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to combat the illegal drug. Locally, Emporia Police installed Narcan in all its patrol vehicles last year to help avert overdose-related serious medical incidents or potential deaths.
