Two innings were costly for the Emporia Spartan 16s in its two games against Lawrence and the Topeka Scrappers Friday at the Trusler Sports Complex.
The 16s fell in its first game of a triangular to Lawrence, 17-3, in five innings at the Trusler Sports Complex. They followed that with a 12-2 loss in five innings to the Scrappers.
Against the Scrappers, the game was tied at 2 through three innings before the Scrappers scored 10 runs in the fourth.
Emporia scored its two runs in the first inning.
Against Lawrence, the game was tied at two after two innings. Lawrence then scored 12 runs in the top of the third and never looked back.
Emporia scored a run in each of the first three innings. Lawrence added three more in the fourth.
Coach Brady McAfee says they need guys to step up in critical situations.
Maddox Shivley went 2-for-3 at the plate against Lawrence.
The 16s are now 3 and 6 on the season. They’ll play Lawrence and the Scrappers again Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex.
