Emporia Fire and Emporia Police are investigating after separate calls to the same Emporia address Saturday night.
Emporia Police was called to 823 Sylvan for a disturbance before 10 pm, later discovering evidence of a fire involving a doghouse in the back yard near the house. Officers called Emporia Fire to investigate shortly before requesting an ambulance for a reported trauma at the address.
Police Officer Dominick Vortherms says two people apparently left the house with one getting hit in the face. That person was treated and released. A suspect, who at one point was inside the house along with the victim, allegedly lit the doghouse on fire and then fled the scene. There was “very minor” damage to both the doghouse and the home nearby.
Officers are looking for the suspect but are not releasing information currently like a name or description. The two agencies are jointly investigating the possible arson side of the incident.
