The Kansas Board of Regents has approved a salary increase for Emporia State University President Ken Hush, making the decision Thursday.
Hush’s salary is going from $275,000 to $286,000, an increase of four percent — tied for the smallest percentage increase approved for Regents university presidents and tied for the lowest adjusted salary with Pittsburg State University President Daniel Shipp. University of Kansas Chancellor Douglas Girod has the highest salary among Regents university leaders at $655,000.
The Regents did not mention any benefit package adjustments when they approved salary increases Thursday.
Hush’s increased salary comes nine months after the Regents approved Emporia State’s Framework for Workforce Management, which led almost immediately to the dismissals of over 30 staff members, most of whom were either tenured or tenure-track professors. Several professors successfully appealed their terminations to the Kansas Office of Administrative Hearings. ESU has since gone to Lyon County District Court to challenge OAH decisions to reinstate Michael Behrens, Rob Catlett, Dan Colson and Amanda Miracle, saying OAH overstepped its bounds or misapplied the law in reversing the dismissals and saying OAH made its decisions without substantial evidence to make its findings. Court rulings are pending in all four cases.
