Local residents wanting to know more about two organizations can do so Wednesday.
SOS CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the Flint Hills and Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow (HOTT) are collaborating to host a recruiting event for volunteers at the Bowyer Community Building.
CASA/HOTT member Katy Peraza joined KVOE’s Morning Show Monday to preview the recruiting event.
Peraza did not know about CASA until she joined SOS nearly two and a half years ago. CASAs help uncover facts in cases of child abuse, neglect, human trafficking and/or custody matters.
They also get to know everyone in the case and develop a special relationship with the children. Peraza says CASA also assists with helping make the right decision for what’s best for children.
HOTT promotes cultural unity, bringing together the talents and abilities of the Hispanic community in order to advocate for the betterment of the Emporia community.
The recruiting event starts at 5:30 p.m. There will be performances by Raices Hispanas Grupo Folclorico along with free food and a raffle.
Those interested in attending can RSVP by finding the event on the SOS CASA of the Flint Hills Facebook page.
