In speaking with KVOE News while in Emporia for the re-dedication of the National Memorial to Fallen Educators on Friday, US Senator Roger Marshall says the best way to reduce school violence is to address mental health and social media.
Like many Republicans, Marshall has resisted calls for restricting access to guns as a potential safety step. He says he is working with Democrat Bernie Sanders on the mental health and social media concerns, inclduding possible a age limit on social media and increased parental consent.
Marshall helped to make the Memorial to Fallen Educators the only national memorial in Kansas, with the legislation passing Congress in 2018.
Separately, Marshall also mentioned Congressional work to strengthen penalties against fentanyl. Marshall also says work is in high gear into crafting a new Farm Bill.
