Finances will take center stage for Emporia City Commissioners when they convene for their regular action and study meetings Wednesday.
During their action agenda, commissioners will review the 2022 annual comprehensive financial report presented by city treasurer Janet Harouff. An ordinance for the issuance of taxable industrial revenue bonds for S&S Quality Meats LLC for $14 million will also see consideration.
The levying of a transient guest tax and membership of the Convention and Visitors Advisory Board as well as appointments to the Multi-Use Path Planning (MUPP) Board will also see consideration.
Commissioners will then move into their regular study meeting where they will discuss the city’s board appointment process and review capital improvement items.
The meetings begin at 11 am inside of the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
Wednesday will be the second official meeting for several new staff members including Assistant City Manager Mark Detter. During a recent interview on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, Detter, the former City Manager of Valdez Alaska, stated one of the biggest contrasts between his current and previous roles is the structure of local government.
Detter adds that with Emporia being a more historic town, his role is more focused on sustaining the city’s development rather than growing it from the ground up.
Prior to his time in Alaska, Detter served as a city administrator in both Rose Hill and Andover.
Detter brings nearly 30 years of experience to the role and replaces Lane Massey, who served as Emporia’s assistant city manager for five years before becoming Spring Hill’s city administrator last summer.
