On your mark, get set, go.
The Emporia Public Library held its annual Worm Races Tuesday morning.
Nearly 30 children participated in the annual event.
The Worm Races have been a part of the library’s summer reading program even before Youth Services Coordinator Lori Heller joined the library over 20 years ago.
Heller says it’s an event that’s unique and that has grown over all the years she’s been in charge.
Winners from the worm races won a fishing combo from Whats In Outdoors host Phil Taunton along with a mini trophy and a bag of gummy worms. There was also ice cream available from Freddy’s.
There’s still plenty more programs the library will hold through the remainder of June and July. Heller says one big event coming up next Tuesday is the “All Together Now: World Tour” at 3 p.m. The event is for Kindergarteners through fifth graders who will get a passport and visit different stations with activities from different countries.
