The tradition continues for the Emporia State women’s basketball team.
Emporia State hosted eight teams for its team camp held Monday and Tuesday.
Emporia State coach Brian Ostermann says a team camp still needs to be held.
Besides having a tournament with all the teams, Ostermann says there was an opportunity for players to showcase their skills to make the camp even more unique.
One of the programs that field a team was the Olpe girls basketball team. Olpe coach Ron Slaymaker put on team camps when he was the men’s coach at Emporia State. With Slaymaker coaching high school girls basketball now, he brings his teams to Emporia State’s team camp.
Slaymaker says the Lady Eagles couldn’t field a team in the varsity division, but saw some good things from a group of freshmen and sophomores. The Lady Eagles were the winners of the junior varsity division.
The Emporia High girls had a team each in the junior varsity and varsity division. The Lady Spartans finished second in the varsity division and third in the junior varsity division.
