The Kansas Insurance Department has announced allocations to fire departments across the state as part of its annual distribution to local firefighter relief associations.
Overall, Lyon County is getting almost $180,000, or almost $20,000 more than its allocation from last year:
*Emporia: Over $120,000
*Allen-Admire: Over $9,700
*Americus: Over $6,700
*Hartford-Neosho Rapids: Over $11,700
*Miller: Over $3,300
*Olpe: Over $10,000
*Reading: Over $16,900
For area departments:
*Coffey County: Over $183,000
*Greenwood County: Over $29,000
*Morris County: Over $30,000
*Osage County: Over $75,000
*Wabaunsee County: Over $52,000
Funds come through the Kansas Firefighters Relief Act, which uses a two-percent tax on insurance company fire and lightning insurance premiums or safety enhancements to pay for health, accident, disability and life insurance premiums.
