Red Rocks’ season of programs continues this weekend.
Sunday’s program focuses on industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and the libraries he funded in Kansas.
Two Carnegie libraries are located in Emporia, the Emporia Public Library, and the academic library on the former College of Emporia campus. Carnegie only funded two academic libraries in America, with Emporia included.
Event Organizer Roger Heineken says Emporia is a unique location to have two Carnegie libraries.
Christine Steinkuehler will present on the topic. Steinkuehler is a career educator in Topeka and enjoys studying Kansas architecture of the late 19th and 20th centuries.
Steinkuehler has visited many of the Carnegie libraries in Kansas.
The presentation will take place at 2 p.m. at the Red Rocks Historic Site.
