Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach says the state’s Medicaid program may have overpaid managed care operations by nearly $1.4 million between 2019-2021.
Kobach says those findings come from a performance audit of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment as conducted by Medicaid Inspector General Steven Anderson. The report says both Kansas and the federal government “can do more to recapture these overpayments” by figuring out which Medicaid beneficiaries move out of state and then taking action to remove them from the Medicaid program.
Anderson’s audit was focused on those eligibility concerns. Besides the general results, the study also found concerns with control, policy, guidance gaps, protocols for assessment coordination and overpayment collection.
