The Kansas City Royals picked up a 6-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday evening.
Tampa Bay took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The Royals tied the game in the third with a pair of RBI singles by Maikel Garcia and MJ Melendez.
Drew Waters gave the Royals a 3-2 lead in the seventh with a solo home run, but it didn’t last long as the Rays scored three in the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Waters tied the game in the eighth with a 2-run single. Melendez reached on an infield single in the ninth that scored Garcia and gave the Royals the lead for good.
Aroldis Chapman picked up his third win of the season while Scott Barlow earned his ninth save of the season.
The Royals and the Rays play game two Friday evening. Zack Greinke will start for the Royals.
