Turnout heavy for Emporia Fire Department’s BBQ fundraiser benefiting cancer-stricken firefighter

Pulled pork, baked beans, chips and dessert raised money for an Emporia firefighter battling cancer.

Turnout was heavy at times at Fire Station 2. Chief Brandon Beck was grateful for the turnout, and he says the firefighter — who has asked not to be named — is responding to treatments.

Some firefighters had a shorter shift than others because a grass fire developed near Emporia just before the meal started.

Fundraising totals are being tabulated.
