A rural Osage City man is awaiting a decision on formal charges after allegedly leading authorities on a high-speed chase early Saturday.
Osage City Police Chief Fred Nech says an officer noted a pickup going at 70 mph in the 700 block of Market around 2:30 am. The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Alex J Bauer, allegedly refused to stop and drove eastbound out of Osage City, going as fast as 100 mph before turning south on US Highway 75. Bauer then allegedly drove south through Lyndon and eventually turned west onto 285th Street before the truck got disabled by unspecified means.
Once the truck stopped working, Bauer allegedly fled the scene. He was found by an Osage County Sheriff K-9 unit and arrested on suspicion of felony flee and elude, reckless driving, aggravated assault on law enforcement and “numerous” traffic infractions.
