The Emporia 16s split its doubleheader against the Kansas Senators Tuesday evening at Soden’s Grove.
Emporia won the first game, 6-5, before the Senators bounced back for a 7-6 victory in game two. The Senators
In game one, the Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Emporia tied the game at 2 after one. The 16s added four in the third to take a 6-2 lead. The Senators rallied with three in the top of the seventh, leaving two runners stranded.
Madden Seidl earned the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and had seven strikeouts.
Caydrick Crouch earned the save, going two innings, allowing three runs on six hits, and striking out two.
Joe Krueger went 2-for-3 at the plate while Owen Ruge had two RBIs.
In game two, Emporia took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Senators scored three in the third. Emporia scored five in the third to take a 6-3 lead.
The Senators struck back with four in the seventh to salvage a split.
Coach Brady McAfee said the 16s played two good games.
Emporia is now 8-9 on the season. Up next for the 16s is the Topeka Scrappers tournament that begins Friday. The 16s will play the Scrappers at 10 a.m. and follow that against Junction City at noon. Emporia will play Andover at noon Saturday and then will play at 2 or 4 p.m. pending on what seed it is after the three games.
