(yahoo sports) The Cleveland Guardians scored 2 runs in the top of the 9th for a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night. The Royals were held to 1 run on 2 hits, they scored their lone run in the bottom of the 8th. Dairon Blanco scored on a throwing error. The Guardians scored both runs off of reliever Scott Barlow.
Royals Starter Brady Singer pitched 6 scoreless innings, giving up 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.
The Royals and Guardians play again Wednesday night. Austin Cox will be the starting pitcher for the Royals. The first pitch is set for 7:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM beginning at 6:30 pm.
The Royals reinstated outfielder Kyle Isbel from the injured list with Nate Eaton being optioned to Omaha.
Cleveland played Tuesday’s game without manager Terry Francona who was hospitalized for testing “out of an abundance of caution” after feeling ill before the game.
Per the Guardians’ website, medical personnel examined Francona at Kauffman Stadium prior to first pitch before he went to The University of Kansas Health Systems for further testing. The Guardians didn’t clarify the nature of his illness or the testing. His status and projected return to the dugout were not immediately clear, but the Guardians announced later in the evening he would be hospitalized overnight.
