Fireworks season is upon us.
Emporia and Lyon County residents could officially buy and set off fireworks beginning Tuesday. The sales and discharge window is now underway daily through July 5. Hours will be 10 am to 10 pm through July 2 and again July 5. Hours for July 3-4 will be 10 am to 11 pm.
Lyon County Emergency Communications received just one complaint Tuesday night.
The Emporia fireworks ordinance says no fireworks can be set off in streets, in parks, the Emporia Golf Course, city parking lots or recreational fields, the David Traylor Zoo, Lee Beran Recreation Center or Jones Aquatic Center parking lots. No fireworks can be set off within 200 square feet of any hospital, school or nursing home property line. Bottle, rockets, metal sparklers or aerials like lanterns are disallowed.
