Emporia Police have arrested one individual following a standoff at a West Emporia residence Wednesday night.
According to Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattas, officers were called to 724 Wilson Street just before 4 pm for a reported domestic violence situation. Once on scene officers were confronted by a man with a machete, later identified as 55-year-old Dwayne L. Ford.
Officers were able to remove all occupants from the home before Emporia Police Detective Kevin Shireman attempted to negotiate with Ford. During the negotiations, Ford was struck with a non-lethal 40 mm rubber projectile in the leg and moved back inside of the home.
Negotiations continued until Ford surrendered without further incident right around 6:50 pm according to Mattas.
Ford was then treated for possible injuries and taken to the Lyon County Jail where he remains at last word on suspicion of battery and aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer. Formal charges are pending.
Ford also had an outstanding warrant for bond revocation through Lyon County District Court in 2022 and was convicted of robbery in Johnson County from an incident dating back to 1991.
In addition to Emporia Police, Lyon and Coffey County deputies also responded to the scene.
