Emporia High School’s gymnasium is set to receive a new HVAC system in the near future.
The USD 253 Board of Education approved a plan to use ESSER III funds during their regular meeting Wednesday evening.
The project is estimated to cost $400,000. The HVAC system in the EHS gymnasium was installed in 1973.
With remaining ESSER funds needing to be utilized by September of 2024, Interim Superintendent of Business Operations Dr. David McGhee says it’s time to get a good start on the project.
PKMR Engineers will assist with the design of the project. McGhee says other requests like this have been approved at other cp districts by using ESSER funds. According to McGhee, USD 253 has over $2 million o ESSER funds remaining.
In other business, the board received its latest Building for the Future construction update from McCown Gordon. Board members also approved the renewal of the district insurance for the 2023-24 school year.
Board members also accepted the resignation of EHS assistant principal Trevor Matthews as a part of the consent agenda portion of the meeting.
The USD 253 Board of Education will next convene at 6:30 p.m. July 12 at Mary Herbert Education Center.
