The heat is here — and, all apologies to Glenn Frey, it’s on.
Air temperatures will reach 102 at the Emporia Municipal Airport on Wednesday, with heat index readings as high as 105. Similar conditions are expected the rest of the work week, with highs of 105 Thursday and 102 Friday before a cold front brings thunderstorms and more “normal” temperatures to the area.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says official air temperatures may vary slightly, but the heat index readings may be pretty uniform the next few days.
Heat advisories cover all area counties from 1-9 pm Wednesday and return Thursday, again from 1-9 pm, for Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties.
With the heat dome from Texas in place now until Saturday, drink lots of water, stay in air conditioning or the shade as much as possible, move any strenuous activities to the morning or evening if that’s allowed and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Also, keep a close eye on young and old alike.
