The Central Care Cancer has several major projects coming, including a roof replacement.
The Newman Regional Health Board of Trustees approved the roof replacement at its monthly meeting Wednesday. Estimated cost is just over $100,000, but Chief Executive Officer Bob Wright says this won’t affect the capital outlay budget.
The Central Care Cancer Center is adding a linear accelerator, which will aim radiation at tumors to spare nearby tissue from cancer treatments. That installation process may begin this fall.
Separately, the board got a good financial report. Outpatient revenue was $1.2 million, or almost 16 percent over budget, while other patient revenue was almost 6 percent over budget — helping to offset inpatient revenue, which was nearly 20 percent under budget for the month. Wright says outpatient care is becoming more important for residents, especially those who have been deferring care for a variety of reasons through and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
In other business, the board changed its longstanding time for meetings from noon to 3:30 pm Wednesdays starting in August.
Meanwhile, the board is having a special meeting at 4:30 pm Thursday — possibly to choose a new CEO. Wright says he’s confident the board will make the right decision as he gets ready for retirement officially by Oct. 1. Three interviews have been planned over the last week.
